October 2010

This month FLEW by!!! I can't believe it is already over. We started the month with Harvest Break. It was so fun to have the kids home for an entire week. They did a lot of reading for their school's read-a-thon. Kailani got  2nd place for the most minutes read in the 2nd grade (just under 1500 minutes). She was very happy, and made me proud.

We also harvested our first ever garden (what was left anyway!). We got a T-O-N of zucchini, onions, lettuce, and tomatoes. We got some delicious bell peppers. Our pumpkins grew like crazy, but never turned orange. Our peas and beans failed miserably. Overall, we were pleased with our results, and it was a lot of fun. Kyle was so happy with his giant cabbage. He carried it around like a baby. He even put it in a stroller, and pushed it around the yard-- a true Cabbage Patch baby.

We had a special FHE prepared by Kyle and Kailani about having a strong family--(like a stick as opposed to a weak family like a bendy wire), and the next week Cameron presented one about the First Vision. I was impressed by the thought and effort they put into their lessons.

We carved Jack-o-lanterns and watched a Harry Potter movie. Kailani insisted on doing her own pumpkin, and did a great job. It was a fun night.

Kyle had a Readers Theatre at school. Parents weren't invited, but he begged his teacher to let me come, (she said I could) then he begged me to come. I am glad he wanted me there, and that I could go. He was the narrator, and the sound effects guy. He did great.

Lastly, was Halloween. After much debate (and mind-changing), Cameron decided to be a Jedi...

Kyle was a sorcerer...

Kailani was a vampiress...

Karen was an adorable fairy...

And Creed was a little Jack-O-Lantern...

It was a busy, but wonderful month.

What I Thought My Babies Might Look Like

When I married Ryan, I knew there was a good possibility that my children might be red-heads (in fact, I planned on it). I remember being very surprised that Cameron was a blond. I was again surprised when Kyle was born with brown hair. Then I was blessed with another brownie and a tiny blondie. So, when I was pregnant with Creed-- I didn't know what to expect. I am grateful Creed has brown hair (and Ryan is too)--  but you have to admit-- he would have made an awfully cute red head!

Knock, Knock...

Knock Knock...
Whos there?
Boo
Boo Who? (boo hoo)
Dont cry, its just a joke.

Everyone knows that knock knock joke.  Its a classic. I think it was funny the first couple times you heard it (way back in the first grade), but after that... not so much. Ive never been a huge fan of knock knock jokes, but as a mother, I get to hear at least one every week or two-- because kids love knock knock jokes. Every once  in a while, I hear a good one. However, most of the time they get a fake laugh and a half-hearted "Oh... good one." Karen loves to tell knock knock jokes. Her knock knock jokes make me laugh EVERY time. That is because she thinks the punchline is ALWAYS supposed to be "Dont cry, its just a joke." Its funny. For example...

Knock knock
Whos there?
Grandma.
Grandma who?
Don't cry, its just a joke!

or

Knock knock.
Whos there?
Banana.
Banana who?
Dont cry, its just a joke!

See, I told you it was funny. Karen has it figured out, because her knock knock jokes are actually funny EVERY SINGLE TIME (well, at least they make me smile.)

Creed and His Little Mothers

Creed is 4 months old. He is delightful. He smiles and laughs and babbles. He rolls all over the place. He is 25.5 inches long, and 14 pounds 11 ounces. He is in the 46% on weight, and the 72% for height. He is so special... and SO loved. I haven't ever seen a baby more loved by its siblings than Creed is by his.

Yesterday,  Creed went to his doctor for his 4 month shots. I dread these shots. I hate the shocked shriek of pain that comes out of their tiny lips after the needles are jabbed into their little legs. I hate the confused look in their eyes as you pin their arms down for the nurses.  I always have to fight back tears of my own. This time was slightly different.  As usual, I cringed and turned away-- but this time, in the corner, I saw Kailani and Karen huddled with their eyes shut tight and their fingers plugging their ears. They looked so cute, I had to smile. They were doing exactly what I wish I could do when my children are in pain. Their pain for their baby brother's pain touched my heart.  Creed is so blessed to have the brothers and sisters that he has, and we are so blessed to have him.
